Frequently Asked Questions
What is the shouldered backplate and how does it differ from the oval backplate?
Both are long-plate mounting styles — the key difference is the shape and character of the backplate itself:
- Oval backplate — smooth oval shape with rounded ends. Clean and contemporary.
- Shouldered backplate — traditional pointed top with decorative shouldered shoulders and a moulded border. More ornate and heritage in character, suited to period-style and traditional interiors.
Both are available in the same functions and finishes.
What makes the Copenhagen lever distinctive?
The Copenhagen lever features a multi-faceted barrel with flat chamfered faces that catch and reflect light — a diamond-like appearance inspired by 20th Century European design. On the shouldered backplate, it creates a handle combination that is both ornate and architecturally refined.
What material is it made from?
The Copenhagen lever on shouldered backplate is crafted from solid brass. This gives it a heavy, premium feel and ensures it won't rust or corrode over time. The solid brass core is then finished in your chosen surface treatment (e.g. Matt Black, Brushed Brass, Polished Nickel).
What warranty is included?
Iver door hardware is backed by a 10-Year Mechanical Warranty in Australia, covering defects in materials and workmanship. In addition:
- Lifetime Finish Warranty — available on Polished Chrome, Brushed Chrome, Polished Nickel and Brushed Gold PVD, covering against corrosion.
- Living finishes — finishes such as Polished Brass naturally age and develop a patina over time. These are generally excluded from finish defect warranties, as this ageing is an inherent and desirable characteristic of the material.

What is the difference between Passage, Privacy and Entrance functions?
The function determines how your door latches and locks — and which kit you need:
- Passage (Latch — 60mm backset) — door latches shut, no locking. Suited to bedrooms, living rooms and studies.
- Privacy (Privacy — 60mm backset) — lockable from inside with a snib (turn-lock), no key required. Suited to bathrooms, ensuites and powder rooms.
- Entrance (Euro — 85mm CTC, 60mm backset) — locks with a key via euro cylinder. Suited to front doors, back doors or any door requiring external security.
What is included in each kit?
All kits include the pair of Copenhagen levers on shouldered backplate, standard spindle, tie bolts, screws, drill template and instruction manual. In addition:
- Passage Kit — adds tube latch split cam (backset 60mm), face plate and striker plate.
- Privacy Kit — includes everything in the Passage Kit, plus privacy bolt round (60mm backset), privacy adaptor and dust boxes.
- Entrance Kit — adds euro mortice lock (CTC 85mm, backset 60mm), euro cylinder Key/Thumb, 2 keys and dust box.
Hinges and flush bolts are not included — see the bundle guide above to select what you need.
Can I use the Entrance Kit on my front door?
Yes. The Entrance Kit includes a euro mortice lock and Key/Thumb cylinder. The outside is locked by default and opened with a key, while the inside is always free and a push button locks the outside when you leave. This is the most popular configuration for residential entrance doors.
Is this fire rated?
Yes. The Copenhagen lever on shouldered backplate has been successfully fire rated to 2 hours in accordance with Australian Standard AS1530.4:2014. Contact our sales team for further details or documentation.
How many hinges do I need and which type?
As a general rule, we recommend 3 hinges for internal doors and 3 hinges for entrance or heavier doors. The type of hinge also matters:
- Ball bearing — Best for entrance and heavier doors. Reduces friction and prevents squeaking over time.
- Fixed pin — Suited to internal doors and lighter entrance doors. A reliable all-rounder.
- Loose pin — Internal use only. Ideal for bathrooms as the door can be lifted off its hinges in an emergency, even when locked.
Do I need flush bolts for a double door?
Yes. Flush bolts secure the inactive leaf of a double door and prevent rattling. We recommend:
- Doors under 2100mm — 150mm bolt top + 150mm bolt bottom
- Doors 2100mm and above — 300mm bolt top + 150mm bolt bottom
Available in non-lockable and key-lockable versions. A magnetic catch (e.g. PLS24PRO) can be used in place of the bottom bolt.
What finishes are available?
The Copenhagen lever on shouldered backplate is available in 9 finishes: Brushed Brass, Brushed Chrome, Distressed Nickel, Matt Black, Polished Brass, Polished Chrome, Polished Nickel, Satin Nickel and Signature Brass. Brushed Chrome and Polished Nickel are covered by the Lifetime Finish Warranty. Polished Brass is a living finish that will naturally age and patina over time. If you're unsure which finish suits your interior, contact us — we're happy to help.
Are these sold as a pair?
Yes. All Copenhagen lever on shouldered backplate sets are sold as a pair, including levers for both the inside and outside of a single door, along with all required hardware for your chosen function.
