Frequently Asked Questions
What is a pull handle and how does it work?
A pull handle is a fixed grip used to open and close a door by pulling with one or both hands. Unlike a lever handle, it does not operate a latch on its own — it is a handling feature. It can be used standalone on one side, back to back on both sides, or paired with a roller mortice lock as a complete entrance kit.
Can I use this pull handle back to back?
Yes. For doors that need a pull handle on both sides, simply purchase two handles and install one on each face of the door. If the door also needs to latch shut, add a separate tube latch. If it needs to lock, choose the Sarlat Pull Handle Entrance Kit which includes the roller mortice lock and all required hardware.
What is a roller mortice lock and why is it used with pull handles?
A roller mortice lock uses a rolling latch bolt instead of a traditional sprung latch — making it ideal for pull handles since there is no lever to retract the latch. When you pull the door shut, the roller latch rolls back and re-engages automatically. For a keyed entrance application, the Sarlat Pull Handle Entrance Kit includes the euro roller mortice lock, euro cylinder (Key/Thumb), escutcheons, spindles and all fixings.
How does the entrance kit lock work?
The entrance kit uses a Key/Thumb euro cylinder function:
- Outside — locked by default. Use your key to unlock and enter.
- Inside — always free, so you can exit at any time without a key.
- Push button — press from the inside to lock the outside when you leave.
This is the most popular function for residential entrance doors as it allows easy exit from inside while keeping the door secure from outside.
Which size should I choose?
The Sarlat pull handle is available in two sizes. The key measurement is the centre-to-centre — the distance between the centre of each fixing hole:
- 487mm handle — 450mm centre to centre — suited to standard single doors and cabinetry
- 638mm handle — 600mm centre to centre — suited to taller entrance doors and statement applications
If replacing an existing pull handle, measure the distance between your current fixing holes before ordering. If installing new, choose the size that best suits the scale of your door.
Where can I use this pull handle?
The Sarlat pull handle is suited to a wide range of applications including:
- Front and back entrance doors — standalone, back to back, or with the entrance kit
- Internal feature doors and hallways
- Kitchen cabinets and pantries
- Drawers, dressers and storage furniture
What material is the handle made from?
The Sarlat pull handle is crafted from solid brass. This gives it a heavy, premium feel and ensures it won't rust or corrode over time — unlike cheaper zinc-alloy alternatives. The solid brass core is then finished in your chosen surface treatment (e.g. Matt Black, Distressed Nickel, Brushed Gold PVD).
Is the Sarlat pull handle fire rated?
Yes. The Sarlat pull handle has been successfully fire rated to 2 hours in accordance with Australian Standard AS1530.4:2014. Contact our sales team for further details or documentation.
What finishes are available?
The Sarlat pull handle is available in up to 10 finishes. The standalone handle comes in: Brushed Brass, Brushed Chrome, Brushed Gold PVD, Chrome Plated, Distressed Nickel, Matt Black, Polished Brass, Polished Nickel, Satin Nickel and Signature Brass. The entrance kit is available in: Brushed Brass, Brushed Chrome, Brushed Gold PVD, Distressed Nickel, Matt Black, Polished Brass, Polished Chrome, Polished Nickel, Satin Nickel and Signature Brass. Note that Chrome Plated is available on the standalone handle only, and Polished Chrome on the entrance kit only. If you're unsure which finish suits your interior, contact us — we're happy to help.
Is it sold as a single handle or a pair?
The Sarlat pull handle is sold as a single handle. For a back to back installation you will need to purchase two. The entrance kit listing includes one handle as part of the complete kit.
Can I match the pull handle to the Sarlat lever handle?
Yes. The Sarlat pull handle is designed to complement the Sarlat lever handle range. Both share the same fluted profile, ornamental detail and finish options — so you can create a fully coordinated look across your entrance and internal doors.
